De oprichting vond plaats in de Franse Tijd en het onderwijs was antiklerikaal geinspireerd. Zeer degelijk historisch onderzoek op basis van raadpleging van archieven. De iconografie is verzorgd, geannoteerd en met bronvermelding. Met statistiek van het aantal leerlingen. Met in aanhangsel een chronologisch overzicht van de diverse verstigingsplaatsen van het atheneum (in de Franse Tijd werden geconfisceerde kloosters gebruikt). Met gedetailleerde bibliografie.
