(ca. 1630-1640, suite of engravings bound in a 19th. c. half leather volume. : Engraved title + engraved portrait of Catherina (signed Cornelius Galle fecit) + 32 engrvings (n° 32 Corn. Galle fec.). Complete suite of engravings illustrating the life of Catherine of Siena. The Plantin Press published this suite with a commentary by the prior of St-Paul convent in Antwerp : Michael Ophovius ( or Ophoven). See Imhoff O.-55 & O-56. The title page of the suite is the same but for the name of the engraver-publisher. The original ''Philippum Gallaeum'' has been changed in ''Ioannem Gallaeu[m]. The year has been removed. Johannes Galle (1600 - 1676) was an Antwerp engraver and printdealer. He was the son and pupil of Theodoor Galle. He acquired during his career many suites of engraved plates of which he made re-issues. The suite is complete and in fine/good condition. The binding shows traces of wear but is technically still sound. On the first paste down is an armorial book plate of Edward Arnold (The Grove Dorking Surrey). The catalogue of Galle's stock (in around 1650) has been published by Peter Fuhring in ''Simiolus 39 2017 pp. 225 - 313.
