[1] First edition. Paris, A. Gaudin et Frère, rue de la Perle. Londres, même maison Newgate street, Imprimerie I.S. van Doosselaere Gand, 1855, in-8°, 22,5 cm, 107 pp + (1)(table). Original printed front cover, rose coloured, bound in after pp. 107. [2] First edition, second imprint. Paris, A. Gaudin et Frère, rue de la Perle. Londres, même maison Skinner street, Snow Hill. Imprimerie I.S. van Doosselaere Gand, 1855, in-8°, 22,5 cm, 107 pp + (1)(table). Original printed front cover, blue coloured, bound in after pp. 107.(This cover carries the words ''(2e tirage)''. The text of this second imprint seems to be wholly identical to the first (apart from the change of the London address , and the note ''2e tirage''.) Bound in contemporary half calf. Title label on spine. Marbled paper covered boards and end papers. Some light wear at binding but still a fine copy with a spotless interior. No provenace markings, except for a small square label in the upper corner of the first fly leaf: the printed number 76, whereby the 6 has an underscore. Interesting and probably unique volume which contains two editions (of which one is the very first) of the important work by the Ghendt scientist van Monckhoven on the collodion photography process. The text became very popular and was at least 7 times revised and expanded (up until 1880). The author was barely 20 years old when he wrote this treatise.
