Bound in later half leather, boards covered with marbled paper, smooth spine with title label. Binding worn, title label damaged, but binding technically sound. Interior good notwithstanding some dustsoiling, one folding plate with a small tear, no loss of paper. Still an acceptable copy. *** Cicognara 2782 mentions 38 plates. OCLC 878630687 (Cambridge Univ.) indicates 26 plates + 3 folding. OCLC 906871080 ( Leiden Univ.) mentions 32 plates. Our copy has a total of 34 plates. An iconic study of Imperial coins and medals of the Roman Empire based on the collection of Cardinal Gasparo di Carpegna. Filippo Buonarroti (1661 - 1733), a great grand nephew of Michelangelo, had served as the Cardinal's secretary, conservator and librarian in Rome from 1684 -1699 and was a prominent Florentine antiquary and politician.
