He was secretary to Victor Hugo for 10 years. The engravings were mainly by the hand of Frédéric Régamey ( 1849 - 1925). Other engravers such as Jules Adeline , Félix Buhot, Cattelain, Félix Oudart, De Neuville....and many others were also contributors.Subscription to the periodical was 40 Fr. per year. This type of illustrated periodical ( extremely expensive and complicated to publish) reached a total of 187 issues and ended in 1877. It was almost certainly driven out of the market with the rise of good photographic reproduction. Paris à l'Eau-Forte remains a unique example of an illustrated periodical , witness of the cultural vitality and creativity in Paris after the horrible year 1870.
