" Paris, chez Charles-Antoine Jombert - Nion Fils, 1752, in-4°, 25,5x19,3 cm, engr. portrait and engraved allegorical frontispiece + (8 nn pp ) + 448 pp + (10) pp (table) + 37 engraved plates. (complete). The plates are full page and contain several illustrations each, they are numbered in the plate together with a number indicating the page where to be bound in. Bound in contemporary full mottled calf, raised gilt spine with red leather title label, marbled edges, marbled endpapers. The only provenance information is a bookseller's label tipped in at the first paste down '' Du catalogue de Maire, libraire rue Mercière '' . This bookseller was active in Lyon in the beginning of the 19th c. EXCEPTIONALLY FINE COPY. Very crisp interior without any stains, the binding in near perfect condition with as only negative remark : some minor shelf wear traces at the two lower corners. Nicolas Bion, 1652 - 1733, a maker of globes and instruments, was appointed ""Ingénieur du Roi Pour les Instrumens de Mathematique"". The first edition was published in Paris in 1709. The 7th part of the book is entirely devoted to the use and construction of naval instruments. An English edition appeared in 1823 ( by Edmund Stone) and was reprinted several times afterwards.
