"12. Villefranche ( = La Rochelle ), chez Guillaume Grenier ( = haer. Jérôme Haultin ), 1602 , in-8°, 172 x 106 mm, title with ornamental woodcut border + 358 leaves + (1)(bl) + (16)nn pp ( index) + (2)(bl) + 1 table between the leaves 127/128. ( Complete ). Bound in 19th century half leather. Title in gilt letters on spine. Allthough bound in a non-contemporary fine but unassuming binding it is still a very nice copy ; no any provenance markings. First edition of an early French publication against the Jesuit Order. It was published anonymously and with a fictitious place of imprint ; but in La Rochelle everybody knew that the text was from Pasquier and that it was printed in La Rochelle. The auhor's name was already in 1603 divulged by the Jesuit Richeome in his '' Plainte Apologétique''. The book was several times reprinted until the 18th c. In 1982 Claude Sutto (Sherbrooke University CA. ) published a critical edition of this important text."
