Leather title label on smooth spine. Vellum slightly soiled, some pages with some minor stains but on the whole a fine/good copy. Rycaut ( London 1629 - Hamburg 1700) wrote this study on the Greek and Armenian Churches at the command of king Charles II; as stated in the title of the first - English - edition ( London, John Starkey 1679). The Middelburg edition is the first French translation . The author , being in diplomatic service at Constantinopel and Smyrna, was one of the first in Western Europe to describe and understand the difficulties of the Greek Church at that time nearly being crushed between Turkish and Catholic beliefs."
