Fine copy of this pageant book with nicely coloured plates. Félix de Vigne (1806-1862) painter and writer (in Dutch and French) was the designer of the costumes of this pageant organised in Ghendt in 1849 and which evoked the Middle Ages in Flanders , the Counts of Flanders. The artist , himself a history painter, was one of the first during this neogothic revival to strive for historical correctness. He also published a well illustrated manual on historical, mainly mediaeval, costume and weaponry to instruct his fellow history painters in the art of history painting..
