Bound in contemporary full mottled calf, raised spine with gilt decoration, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers. With 4 different printed or engraved ex-libris pasted onto the first end leaves. Binding with some slight traces of wear, binding slightly loosening but still firm. Interior fine and crisp. Most of the pages contain printed music reproduced in woodcut. Finely preserved liturgical music book for the Roman Catholic Church; produced for the diocese of Sens ( Burgundy - France). This seems to be the first edition. In 1828 there was a reprint (in 2 vols, with a Graduale and Antiphonary). The book contains a large preface by the cardinal de Luynes on the importance of processions and chant. This publication is one of his first acts as archbishop of Sens . He was nominated on April 5th 1756. The cardinal was a famous figure at the royal French court. He was a member of the Académie française and also chaplain to ''la Dauphine Marie-Josèphe'' futur mother of king Louis XVI and Charles X.."
