Bound in three uniform contemporary full leather bindings; mottled calf, raised gilt spine with title label, edges painted red, marbled endpapers. Very fine set with minimal wear at bindings. With in all volumes the engraved armorial ex-libris pasted on the inside of the front cover '' Alexandre Jean Mignot, abbé de Scelleries....''. Translation into French of the rules of the Jesuit order as they were published in Prague e.g. in 1757 in 2 in-folio volumes. The translator declares in the introduction that is was his aim to give an impartial and literal translation. The reader can judge this because the original Latin text is each time reproduced on the opposite page. The first owner of this book Alexandre Jean Mignot (1725-1791) was the abbot of the Seillières abbey at Romilly-sur -Seine. He is famous as being the nephew of Voltaire and for arranging the burial of Voltaire (who died in Paris) on the abbey grounds."‎
