"12. Paris, chez F. Buisson et Charles Pougens ( libraire), An VIII (1799-1800), 3 vols. in-8°, [I] (4)nn pp + xvi pp + 408 pp ; [II] (4)nn pp + 446 pp ; [III] (8) nn pp + folding map + 407 pp + 9 large folding plates (complete), bound in three uniform half roan bindings with marbled paper covered boards, smooth spines with gilt titles, corners of bindings worn and with some paper loss, interior with some minor foxing and some sparse stains. Still a god copy. Provenance; loosely inserted is a holograph letter (dated 24 oct. 1950) from Prof. Jean Timmermans ( Université Libre de Bruxelles) to Monseigneur Van Waeyenberg , rector magnificus of the ''Katholieke Universiteit Leuven ''. This letter accompanied the books, given as a token of friendship, by Timmermans. He points out that on pp. 356 of volume I the author writes about Louvain university. Both figures were very much ideologically opposed in the belgian university landscape ; a staunch free mason against a conservative bishop of the Roman Catholic church."
