Triple fillets on both covers. All edges gilt. A fine set on large paper. Printed armorial ex-libris William Vincens Bouguereau in the first volume. Nice complete copy of the famous image dictionary, for the use of artists and art lovers, based on the iconology by Cesare Ripa ( 1593). This collection of 350 figures (on 202 plates) was begun by Hubert Gravelot. Upon his death in 1773 the editor continued with Charles-Nicolas Cochin who also did not live to see this publication (he died in 1790). See Cohen pp. 456 - 457. See also ''Ch.
