(Complete). The three text volumes bound in contemporary uniform full leather, with smooth decorated spines with two labels. Plate volume bound in later half leather with marbled boards. The last leaf of the first text volume ( a publisher's catalogue leaf) is partly glued to the fly leaf . Some of the leaves in the plate volume are slightly soiled or thumbed, or having very faint clear old waterstains. Notwithstanding these defects still a fine and handsome copy. First edition. Description of a discovery voyage made by Sonnini (1751 - 1812) on the orders of king Louis XV of France in 1777 through low and upper Egypt. The author was highly interested in the natural history of the region (being at one time, secretary to Buffon). He treats the natural history of the region accordingly in this travel account."
