''This work gives the botanical and commercial names of about 67 tropical tree species, their general macroscopic and microscopic description, physical, mechanical and technological properties, natural resistence against insects and fungi and uses. The Mayumbe area is situated at he mouth of the Congo river at the West Coast of Africa ( includes parts of Gabon, Angola, Republic of Congo and Democratic Republic of Congo). When this book was published the forest area comprised about 500.000 hectares (1.200.000 acres). It now has declined to ca. 80.000 hectares.
