Last page is sealed. Printed life insurance and annuity contract or deed of partnership , signed and with manuscript additions of Bastiaan den Broeder (°Breda 10-III-1729 - +Breda 22 VI 1769) The life annuity company '' Generale Prebende-, en Tontine Societeit'' with the motto '' Magnos et Parvos Mors Truculenta Rapit '' was founded by Johannes van der Heij in 1761. In 1768 he merged this company with two others under the new name '' Ultimatum est''. Apart from the extensive printed contract (60 pp) this document contains also two complete printed accounts for the fiscal years 1761/62 and 1762/63 with the names of all the subscribers and their payments. At page 24 we learn e.g. that the printer Houttuin was paid 203 florins for the printing of 50 sealed contracts (as this item) and 24 unsealed contracts. We known from a recently published doctoral thesis ( Hendrik Martijn Punt - Het Vennootschapsrecht van Holland , 2010, Leiden University , ISBN 9879013079753) that the workings of the succeeder company were the subject in 1779 of a law suit. From this court case we learn that the founder Johannes van der Heij had fled to Kleve ( Germany) after embezzling 70.000 fl. Extremely rare and very early document illustrating in great detail the working of a life annuity company of corporate ownership in 18th c. Western Europe.
