Pedro de la Rosa, 1784, small in-4°, 19 x 14 cm, engraved frontispiece (signed Iphus Nava) + (28)nn pp (title with engraved vignette) + 188 pp, bound in contemporary full vellum. Frontispiece and title with some small stains or smudges but still a fine copy. Rare Mexican edition of Ripalda's catechism. Ripalda's text was not only the vehicle to propagate the Christian belief but it served also the spread of the Spanish language in South-America. Numerous children used it as a text-book to learn Spanish. It was translated in Nahuatl , Otomi, Tarasco , Zapoteca and Maya ( to name only Mexican languages).
