Bound in publisher's cloth with gilt title on front cover. The maps are kept in a purposely made portfolio at the end of the book. A fine copy. Jacob Kraus was one of the most important Dutch hydraulic engineers who helped to secure the Netherlands' world wide renown in hydraulic engineering in the 20th century. From 1890 till 1898 he resided in South America were he played a major part in the design and construction of ports, dry-docks etc. In 1905 he became the first rector magnificus ( chancellor ) of the '' Technische Hogeschool te Delft''. Afterwards he became the Dutch minister for Industry and Transport ( Waterstaat).
