Contemporary full leather, edges painted red, binding restored, spine and corners with loss of leather which has been expertly repaired , two library stamps on title page, first and last leaves with frayed edges and some marginal loss of paper - one paper restoration at title leaf corner (no loss of text). Cornelius Jansenius ( Senior or Hulstensis) was the first bishop of the dioscese of Ghent (1568). He was doctor in theology and participated at the Council of Trente. From 1562 until 1565 he was president of the college of theology at Louvain University. His commentariorum is his main work. It was a pionering work in the history of Roman Catholic exegesis. The first edition was published also in Louvain, in 1572. USTC 401689.
