Kept in two uniform half leather boxes , gilt lettering on spines. In all 117 original graphics (most are engravings, some woodcut or linoleum cut) were published. This set contains an extra three engraved ex-libris especially made for the first owner. So a total of 120 engravings. The set contains also 94 autograph letters or cards from the artists involved and addressed to Mr. Grosfils (as editor of this yearly portfolio). La Gravure Originale Belge was an important and exclusive graphic art initiative in which participated most of the important belgian graphic artists during the Interbellum. E.g. Maurice Langaskens, Rassenfosse, Ramah , Henri van Straten , Kurt Peiser , Louis Titz , Dirk Baksteen , Léon Buisseret , Albert Delstanche , Pierre Paulus , Anto-Carte....The portfolios were printed in between 55 and 75 numbered copies. Membership was limited to 50 collectors and 50 contributing artists. This complete set, enriched with the many autographs, is a unique testimony of belgian graphic art in the first half of the 20th century. Jules Grosfils, first owner of this set, was a famous art-collector and Brussels business man. At one time he was the owner of the luxury hotel '' Albert Ier '' on the Place Rogier in Brussels.
