Interesting study but with a dubious and confusing title. The Belgian nation state emerged from the revolution in 1830, so its influence on 16th and 17th century Dutch history, we may safely assume, was non-existent. The author cannot find it in his heart to call the region ''The Southern - or Spanish Netherlands''..
