With numerous woodcut initials and 66 half-page woodcuts, some dated (1549) and most signed with the initials HB ( Hans Brosamer). On verso of leaf 112; a map of the old world (Europe, Asia and Africa). Signature A-Z6, a-z6, As-Ss6, Tt4 (Ttiiii being blank).(complete). Bound in 18th-century full leather, with raised spine, marbled pastedowns, with intricate blindtooling on both covers, edges gilt, painted and blindtooled. The fore-edge shows two red painted hearts with the initials VDMIE amid flower garlands. Extraordinarely well preserved copy with the only negative quality remark being some unobtrusive marginal worming on the title page. Once the copy of John Redman Coxe; his manuscript ex-libris written on the inner margin of the titlepage. Rare and very fine illustrated edition of the Prophets (of the Old Testament) and the complete New Testament in German, in Martin Luther's translation.
