".: 15. London, printed at the Bedford Press, 1900, large in-4°, 37 x 27 cm, xviii pp + (2)(halftitle) + 360 pp + 178 full-page illustrations and plans (some folding) + approx. 1000 illustrations in the text (the plate and text illustrations with a continuous numbering). Bound in a contemporary half leather binding, with green cloth covered boards, raised gilt spine, top edge gilt. Leather slightly discoloured and with some minor wear. A fine copy. An impressive and exhaustive study on the French industrial conglomerate firm Schneider et Companie. It is particularly well illustrated and thus should no have failed to raise the interest of the British and German competitors. At the turn of the century Schneider was the leading French artillery constructor and inventor of the one-motion breech opening mechanism. Nearly half of the book is devoted to the military products of Schneider; armour plates, artillery, naval guns, quick-firing guns , mortars, howitzers, naval turrets etc. Other articles deal with their steel plants, ship-building, marine engines, locomotives, civil engineering etc. The last chapter (LI) deals with the Schneider pavilion at the Paris 1900 World Exhibition. (Due to larger/size weight of this book, additional shipping charges may apply depending on customer location.)."
