Paris, Jean Petit, 1688, sm. in-8°, engr. frontispiece (completely torn , repaired with a tipped on stroke of paper) representing the author in his library, (xvi) nn pp + 432 pp, contemporary calf, raised spine (missing). joints broken, but covers still attached. Apart from the binding and the torn and frayed frontispiece still an acceptable copy. This is the 2nd edition. The letters date from 1645-1672 (at Patin's death in his 70s).
