(complete). Engraved title signed Philip Kiliar, printed in double columns within a double line border, with several copper engraved illustrations in the text. Language Latin. Bound in contemporary full calf, raised spine with gilt title (expertly rebacked), ex-library with tiny circular 19th century library stamp on titles and verso titles, some staining and very slight browning of a few pages, in all a very nice copy. With the manuscript ex-libris of ''Guilelmus Bernardus ab Hinnisdael Cantor Leod(iensis) 1682'' written on the half title. Christoph Brouwer ( Browerius ) Arnhem 1559 - Trier 1617, compiled this history of Trier on the instigation of Archbishop Johann VII of Schoenenberg and Lothar of Mitternich with the intent to support the claims of the archbishops against the city of Trier. His honesty and his historical method however led to the suppression of the first Cologne edition (1626), which is now exceedingly rare. This Liège edition from 1670 was enhanced and reworked by Jacob Masen. (See Catholic Encyclopedia)."
