" Paris, L'Auteur, 1765. Folio. 42 x 28 cm, . (iv) + 232 + (2) pages + 57 engraved plates, of which 15 double-page and 10 folding. Contemporary mottled calf, raised gilt back, red leather title label, red painted edges, with nice old ex-libris stamp on title 'P. Méaux entrepreneur'. First edition. Patte's most influential work. The book consists of two parts; the first records the many monuments erected to Louis XV; the second proposes a square dedicated to the king, Place Louis XV (today, the Place de la Concorde,) There are also plates illustrating and comparing projects to change the lay-out of Paris which can be regarded as precursurs to architectural competitions There is some slight sporadic foxing, but is a real fine copy complete with the ""Approbation"" leaf not called for by Millard."
