He studied at NHISKA (1934 -39, G. van de Woestyne and I. Opsomer) and made his debut in 1942 in Antwerp. His art is considered 'degenerate art' by the Germans and he is arrested during an exhibition in Brussels in 1943. Participates in the exhibitions of Apport (1944 - 1948). Settled in Brussels in 1944. Mendelson is co-founder and designer of the logo of La Jeune Peinture Belge (1945) and participates in the association's exhibitions. Co-founder of Espace (1952). He works as a teacher of screen printing at Ter Kameren (1951 - 1980) and is a member of the Royal Academy (1965). He makes the mural panel Happy Metro to you in the Park metro station in Brussels (1974).
