The cruiser Oleg was an armoured deck cruiser of I rank built at the New Admiralty shipyard in St. Petersburg. The laying of the foundation took place on July 6 1902 with the participation of Emperor Nicholas II. The launch took place on August 14 1903 but the completion of construction and testing lasted until 1904. Oleg took part in the Russo-Japanese War including the Battle of Tsushima where he suffered significant damage but survived and was interned in Manila.
