Daughter of a Russian politician who emigrated from Russia after the events of 1905. In 1923 she moved to the USSR with her family. From 1926 to 1930 she studied at the Kharkiv Art Institute (now the Kharkiv Academy of Design and Arts) at the Faculty of Graphics (workshop of V.Ermilov).
