Alexander Ivanovich Kuprin was born on August 26 (September 7) 1870 in Narovchat Penza province. He came from a poor noble family graduated from the Alexander Military School in Moscow (his memories are inspired by Junckers novel written in exile 1933) and in 1890-1894 served in a regiment located in Podolsk province on the borders of the Russian Empire.
