‎ALKEN, Henry‎
‎Knights. - View in the City Road from "Specimens of Riding Near London"‎

‎A very nice copy of this hand coloured caricature. Nice clean impression with very good colouring. A touch of darkening to the sheet only. Impressed image 20cm x 25cm. The sheet is 22.5cm x 28cm. The commentary in the book states: "Finally, we took off, knights on the City Road. And shortly thereafter, so, too, did the wind, almost taking us off our horses. "No more beans for breakfast," I flatulently noted to Sancho, whose horse, the geologist, looked back at him as if to say, "Hey, Stinky, lay off the Limburger!" The malodorous gale blew out our umbrellas, which we brought along to insure a full day of uninterrupted sunshine. Had we not brought umbrellas a monsoon would have surely engulfed us, its thumb on its nose with fingers wiggling, the universal sign for "na na-na na na!"" The paper is Whatman watermarked paper dated 1821. A very nice copy. First edition. .‎
