‎HIPPOCRATIS, Magni‎
‎Coi Opera Omnia.Graece & Latine Edita, Van der Linden ‎

‎Lugduni Batavorum [Leiden] Apud Danielem, Abrahamum & Adrianum á Gaasbeeck 1665 First edition (van der Linden's Leiden edition). Two volumes. Engraved title and engraved portrait of Hipocrates at the beginning of the first volume. Bound in full brown leather with gilt decoration and titles on spine. Both volumes show some rubbing to the spine and loss of the upper surface of the spine leather (worse for volume 1 - see photographs). A few historiated initials and small vignettes in each volume. Dedication at the beginning of the first volume. All edges gilt. The interior is clean and tidy, with only minor darkening. The ownership history of this copy is particularly interesting. At the beginning of each volume is the ex libris paper of Syston Park, the famous library of Sir John Thorold. This library was largely dispersed by Sothebys in 1884 (although this copy does not appear to have been part of that sale). There is also the small leather label of the Huth library "Ex Musaeo Huthii". This library was founded by Henry Huth (1815-1878) and continued by his son Alfred H. Huth. The library was dispersed by Sotheby's in several sales between 1911 and 1920. Finally, there is a John Burns ownership mark dating from 1920. Collation: *-***4, A-Lll8, [2], a-ttt6, (index) a-i3. pp = [38], 1-878[ii], [4], 1-1034, [130]. pages. 200 by 125mm.‎
