‎The Protestant Advocate: or a Review of Publications Relating to the Roman Catholic Question, and Repertory of Protestant Intelligence. in Four Volumes.‎

‎London: J. J. Stockdale, 41 Pall Mall, 1813-1816 Première édition. Quatre volumes (complets). Demi-cuir récent avec titres dorés sur six bandes, avec planches d'origine. Tous les volumes ont été publiés. The Advocate a été intégré à la "Anti-Jacobin Review" en 1816. Un périodique protestant / anticatholique avec des contributions de Shute, évêque de Durham, George Isaac Huntingford, évêque de Gloucester, George Tomline, évêque de Lincoln, Tomas Burgess, évêque de St. David's, George Canning, Granville Sharp, John Coxe, parmi d'autres. Dans l'ensemble, un excellent exemplaire. vi, [errata], 1-668, iv, 1-570, iv, 1-572, vii, 1-472. pp. Copac ne cite que deux exemplaires de l'ouvrage complet, dans les collections spéciales de Cambridge et à la bibliothèque de Chetham, à Manchester. Cet exemplaire a appartenu à Gilbert Buchanan et porte ses initiales sur le devant des volumes. Buchanan était un ecclésiastique de l'Église d'Angleterre, qui contribuait au Advocate (et au Gentleman's Magazine) sous le nom de plume de "Clericus Surriensis". Anglo-américain, il avait quitté l'Amérique pendant la guerre d'Indépendance et était devenu ecclésiastique. Il a passé beaucoup de temps à collationner des copies du Book of Common Prayer avec celui conservé à la Tour (le "Authorized Standard"). Il a finalement participé à la publication d'une édition corrigée. La lettre qu'il apporte ici a été légèrement annotée et corrigée de sa main, et signée par lui.‎

‎First Edition. Four Volumes (complete). Recent half leather with gilt titles in six bands, with original boards. All issued. The Advocate was subsumed into the "Anti-Jacobin Review" in 1816. A Protestant / Anti-Catholic periodical with contributions from Shute Bishop of Durham, George Isaac Huntingford Bishop of Gloucester, George Tomline Bishop of Lincoln, Tomas Burgess Bishop of St. David's, George Canning, Granville Sharp, John Coxe, among others. The spines are new, and are in excellent clean and tidy condition. The boards are a little rubbed and darkened, but are still in sound shape. Internally the four volumes are in excellent condition. Clean and tidy, with very slight darkening only. Owner's monogrammed initials to each volume. A little light creasing to vol. 3. Overall, an excellent example. vi, [errata], 1-668., iv, 1-570., iv, 1-572., vii, 1-472. pp. Copac cites only two copies of the complete work, in the Cambridge Special Collections, and at Chetham's library, Manchester. This copy belonged to Gilbert Buchanan, and has his initials in the front of the volumes. Buchanan was a Church of England clergyman, who was one of the contributors to the Advocate (and the Gentleman's Magazine) under the pen name "Clericus Surriensis". An Anglo-American, he had left America during the Revolutionary War, and had become a clergyman. He spent much time collating copies of the Book of Common Prayer with that held at the Tower (the "Authorized Standard"). He was eventually involved in publishing a corrected edition. The letter contributed by him here has been lightly annotated and corrected in his hand, and signed by him. .‎
