Émile Zola est un écrivain français de la seconde moitié du XIXème siècle. Il est considéré comme le chef de file du naturalisme. Il a soutenu les impressionnistes. Il défendit Alfred Dreyfus grâce à son célèbre «J'accuse» paru dans l'Aurore, en janvier 1898, et dont Clemenceau avait trouvé le titre.‎
