"Umberto Boccioni : Peintre et sculpteur italien, né le 19 octobre 1882 à Reggio de Calabre et mort le 16 août 1916 à Vérone. En 1908, Umberto Boccioni fait à Milan la connaissance du poète Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, créateur du Futurisme, dont le manifeste paraît le 20 février 1909. Boccioni devient alors le théoricien de ce mouvement pictural. En 1914, il publie Peintures, Sculptures futuristes. Mobilisé à la déclaration de guerre, Boccioni meurt en 1916 des suites d'une chute de cheval. Après sa mort, le futurisme tel qu'il le concevait change de visage sous les effets de l'horreur."
