‎LES OUTILS DE M. FILLIOL : maquettes, spécimens, modèles, "salesman dummy" et feuillets de souscription‎

‎Michel Filliol, "Tous les Beaux Livres", disait sa carte d'affaires. Au cours des années 1960-1980, Michel Filliol fut représentant de livres illustrés auprès des notables de Montréal et de Québec. Armé de maquettes et de spécimens de beaux illustrés offerts en souscription, il visitait ses clients pour leurs proposés les nouveautés de plusieurs éditeurs français : Le Chant des spères à Nice, L'Ibis, Club de l'Honnête Homme, Piazza, Michel de L'Ormeraie, Trinkvel, L'Odéon, André Sauret et l'Imprimerie nationale, Philippe Lebaud, La Belle Édition, Pierre de Tartas, Les heures claires, Lidis, La Belle édition, André Vial qui agissait aussi comme diffuseur, Flammarion et Gallimard. :: Je me rappelle l'avoir rencontré début 1980 lors d'un Salon du Livre de Montréal à Place Bonaventure avec ses maquettes de reliures dépliantes sur les tablettes. J'étais resté assez surpris de ne voir que des faux livres qui, malgré leur beau papier, leurs estampes originales et leur cuir maroquiné, demeuraient des "dummy". :: Je me suis repris depuis et quand je fais une adresse, je reconnais les bibliothèque qu'il a contribué a constitué. La conversation tombe alors sur M. Filliol et le débat entre reliés ou brochés. :: Lors d'une visite où l'on m'avait prévenu de la qualité des ouvrages acquis auprès de M. Filliol, je n'ai pas réussi à négocier l'achat des volumes, mais j'ai finalemen acquis plus de 150 spécimens laissés par M. Filliol à son client peu avant son retour en France. :: Chaque spécimen comprend soit des fac-similés (portraits, photos, gravures) soit des planches originales. On y trouve des compositions de Ansaldi, Gaston Barret, Bécat, Brayer, Brenot, Lucy Boucher, Carzou, Chapelain-Midy, Ciry, Jacques Collot, Da Ros, Dignimont, Amandine Doré, Dubout, Dussarthou, Erni, Leonor Fini, Fontanarosa, Gradassi le miniaturiste, Grau-Sala, André Hubert, Paulette Humbert, Josso, Henry Lemarié, Claude Lepape, Mac'Avoy, Steinlen, Trémois, Valadié, etc. :: Les formats varient de in-8 à in-folio, mais sont en général au format in-4.
