Pond, Arthur & Charles Knapton: Pond's Landscapes after C. LE Lorrain, G. Poussin, & c. Engraved by Vivares, Mason, Chatelaine, & c. c. 1747. 43 plates with tissue guards. Nine after Claude Lorrain, thirty after Gaspard Dughet, also known as Gaspard Poussin, and one each after Filippo Lauri, Salvator Rosa, Giacomo Cortesi called Borgognone and Rembrandt van Rijn. Each plate is inscribed with the details of the source image including the artist, date, dimensions and current whereabouts. Also included are the names and dates of the copier and engraver. Arthur Pond (1701-1758) joined Charles Knapton (1728-1742) in print publishing in the 1730s. Together they produced at least three albums of facsimiles: 'A Collection of Etchings and Engravings in Imitation of Drawings from Various Old Masters, Being Facsimiles of Their Respective Performances', London 1734 &c., 'Italian Landscapes', London c.1740-44 and the present set.
Arthur Pond (1701-1758) joined Charles Knapton (1728-1742) in print publishing in the 1730s.
