Exceedingly rare first edition of this critical analysis of the declaration made by Louis XVIII during his exile in which he affirmed his claim to the throne of France and laying out his vision for restoring the monarchy after the revolution. The declaration was intended to reassure royalist supporters and outline his approach to governancevemphasizing continuity, tradition and the restoration of order following the chaos of the Revolution. Charles-François du Périer Dumouriez was a French military officer, minister of Foreign Affairs, minister of War in a Girondin cabinet and army general during the French Revolutionary War. Dumouriez is one of the names inscribed under the Arc de Triomphe, on Column 3.
