Light wear to extremities. Previous owner's name in contemporary hand to title-page. Small part of outer margin of title-page cut off, not affecting text. With numerous neat marginal annotations in contemporary hand throughout. A nice and wide margined copy. (26), 770, (34) pp.‎

‎Rare first edition of Neumann’s posthumously published defense of Lutheran orthodoxy, presented in a aphoristic format. A controversial anti-Pietist text it because his most popular and famous work. Johann Georg Neumann (1661–1709) was a provost of the Castle Church and professor of theology in Wittenberg. Known for his intelligence and audacity, Neumann secured professorships in poetry (1690) and theology (1692).‎
