‎"ANDERSEN, HANS CHRISTIAN.‎
‎Until recently unpublished poem (Der er et Hjem, en Herregaard ved Fjorden...) by Hans Christian Andersen, handwritten in an unknown, contemporary hand. - [MANUSCRIPT VERSION IN A CONTEMPORARY HAND OF A POEM BY HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN]‎

‎8 Juli 1838. 8vo. 2 pages. / H.C. Andersen.""‎

‎A manuscript, in an unknown hand, of a - for a long time unpublished - poem by Andersen ('Der er et Hjem, en Herregaard ...'). For a century and a half, the poem was unpublished and virtually unknown. It was the re-discovered and published in 1987 (J. Skjerk, 'H.C. Andersen og Ingeborg Drewsen, f. Collin'). The poem, which carries the date 8 July 1838, was in all probability composed during a visit at Nysø, where Andersen, according to his almanac, was staying at the time. On July 7, he notes: ""Sang til Kammerherreinde Stampe."" ('Song for Kammerherreinde Stampe'). Andersen's original manuscript is lost, and the poem has only survived due to contemporary manuscript copies. To our knowledge, only three other contemporary manuscript versions exist, two of which are housed at the Royal Library in Copenhagen (NKS 4029" NKS 2712). The third, presumably still in private hands, is referred to in the article 'Den nysøeske Nattergal' (Anderseniana, 1991), where the poem is reproduced. The present manuscript deviates in two places from the text printed in 'Den nysøeske Nattergal': 2.6: 'Ak!' instead of 'At'. 2.8: 'Simpel' instead of 'ringe'. The present manuscript previously belonged to the renowned scholar and Andersen collector Erik Dal.‎
