First edition with an illustration of this treatise on miniature painting on glass presented as a dialogue between the author and his female apprentice, a marquise. Initially published in 1755 without an illustration, the book appears to serve as both an endorsement for Vispré as a tutor and supplier of artistic materials. By 1766, with the release of this edition, Vispré had established himself in London, enjoying success as a portrait painter and miniaturist. He began exhibiting with the Society of Artists and later became a frequent participant at the Royal Academy.
