First edition Monnoye's collection of selected works in both prose and verse. Bernard de La Monnoye (1641-1728) was a French poet, scholar, and critic from Dijon, Burgundy. He is best known for his collection of Christmas carols, ""Les Noëls bourguignons,"" written in the Burgundian dialect which are celebrated for their charm and regional authenticity. Besides his carols, La Monnoye excelled in witty and satirical poetry and made significant contributions to literary criticism and scholarship.
