Some leaves with brownspotting, but also internally nicer and fresher than usual. Contemporary owner's inscription to front free end-paper, dated 1854. A very nice copy. ‎Very rare first edition of this Kierkegaard-title, which is without doubt the most difficult to get hold of. ""Sixteen Upbuilding Discourses"" consists of the popular Two, Three and Four Upbuilding Discourses. The unsold copies of these ""Opbyggelige Taler"" (""Upbuilding Discourses"") were initially collected under the title ""Atten opbyggelige Taler"" (Eighteen Upbuilding Discourses) and published with a collected title-page"" when ""To opbyggelige Taler"" (""Two Upbuilding Discourses"") from 1843 was sold out, the remaining sixteen upbuilding discourses were published with the title-page ""Sexten opbyggelige Taler"". The number of copies of this scarce title is said to be well under 100 and is thus by far the rarest of all of Kierkegaard's books.‎
