Double line gilt borders and ornamentations to corners of boards. Gilt and painted black ornamentation to center of boards. Edges of boards and all edges gilt. A few scattered brownspots, otherwise internally clean. Minor tears and restaurations to the folded map. In a neat later slipcase. Title page printed in black and red. With engraved title vignette. (1),365 pp. + 1 folded hand coloured map.

Edition originale de cette version de Virgile donnée par Heinsius. Elle se distingue des réimpressions effectuées la même année par deux pages imprimées en rouge. Elle est illustrée d'un titre-frontispice, d'une médaille gravée sur bois (revers et avers) à l'effigie de Virgile et d'une carte repliée du périple d'Enée.Cette édition est un chef-d'oeuvre typographique. (Willems, n° 450).Bel exemplaire en maroquin rouge ancien.
