This investigation of Fresnel's paper by Arago (mainly written by Arago as a polemic directed at Biot) and Ampère is a central document in the rather bitter confrontation between Arago and Biot on the wave theory of light put forward by Fresnel.Fresnel's paper is the first part of three of his ""Calcul des teintes"".‎
