Jevons was a pioneer of symbolic logic. The frontispiece depicts his logical machine, often called a ""logical piano"". It was the first logic machine with enough power to solve complicated problems with superhuman speed. It was first demonstrated before the Royal Society in 1870. - Originally issued 1874, this is the fourth reprint.
