First printing of two importent papers, the first paper is Gerhardt's first work, having the same subject as his doctoral theisis, 1840. The second paperis a classic study in organic chemistry in which Gerhardt breaks with the conceptions of dualism and pre-existing radicals, and sets forth his ""Theory of Residues"".
