He states that: ""The squareroot of 3 is thus only a symbol for number which has yet to to be found, but is not its definition. The definitions is, however, satisfactorily given by my method as, say (1.7, 1.73, 1.732, ...). [From the present paper]. Cantor is famous for his work on infinite numbers. ‎
