‎First edition of Grime's seminal paper in which the CSR Triangle theory is presented. The theory is widely regarded as being one of the most influential theories in explaining ecological growth- and survival strategies. The CRS theory is built upon the three pillars: Competitor, Stress tolerator and Ruderal, and each of them present a strategy for plants to survive and grow. ""It is suggested that there are three major determinants of vegetation - competition, stress and disturbance - and that each has invoked a distinct strategy on the part of the flowering plant. A method is described whereby is it possible to distinguish types of herbaceous vegetation by reference to the relative importance of the three strategies in the genotypes of the component species"", from the introduction to the present article. The theory was presented in the context of plants but has been widely accepted in animal ecology as well. In 1979 Grimes expanded and elaborated his theory in the book ""Plant Strategies and Vegetation Processes"".‎
