The extremely scarce first Russian edition of this classical text-book which served as the basis for the basic teaching of science to the youth in Russia for decades, printed in Moscow in 1764, 19 years before the freeing of the book printing in Germany, which later led to numerous German works being widely distributed in Russia. The work was originally published in French with German translations following shortly after. This is the first Russian-German edition and the first Russian edition of the text at all. Johann Heinrich Samuel Formey (1711 - 1797) was a German author who wrote in the French. He is now primarily remembered for his educational science-work for the youth, which was highly popular throughout Europe and which became an educational standard-work. He also worked with Diderot and wrote about Rousseau.
